Welcome to one of the most outstanding Hotels we have ever been!

Where was the most amazing place you ever slept? Ours was definitely this one…

This year Switzerland Tourism and Swiss Urband Sleeping opened up some amazing Pop-up Hotels all over Switzerland. You can choose from several accommodations like sleeping in a castle, a glass pavilion or in a tower and many more. But we are sure, we had the best Pop-up Hotel…

We had not just a boat…it’s the MS Konstanz in Schaffhausen Switzerland. Build in 1925 for about 60 people but on that day/night she was just for us. The boat was super lovely and nostalgic, the interior and the decorations were made with so much love and we felt at home from the very first second.

That place is made for relaxing! Inside the boat is a big cozy bed, two hammocks, and a little dining area at the end of the boat. We also found a box full of snacks, wine (of course a wine from Schaffhausen because they are known for their good Wine) and other goodies for us. There also is a restroom but no shower, but you have the river… so jump in and you’re awake and fresh for the day 😉

Another huge plus was the service on the boat. We ordered our amazing dinner at the hotel 100 meters down the pier and it was amazing. Great food, a very good wine (and maybe one or two cocktails) and the whole boat just for us with a priceless view of the Rhein river and the city Schaffhausen. It was super romantic and I could not imagine a more beautiful place to stay as a couple.

Breakfast was at the Hotel “Sorell Hotel Rüden”. Its round about 7 minutes by foot and you’re allowed to see Schaffhausen complete empty (if you don’t sleep too long). The buffet breakfast was amazing and had everything you need for a good swiss breakfast.

So if you have the chance to stay at this tiny piece of epicness you HAVE to do it.

You can find all informations about Swiss Urban Sleeping in Switzerland and of course about our little boat in Schaffhausen HERE.

But of course Schaffhausen has to offer way more so we used the day for some exploring.

WHAT ELSE TO SEE IN SCHAFFHAUSEN:

There are so many things to see in Schaffhausen! First at al, there is of course, the RHEINFALL.

THE RHEINFALL:

The Rheinfall is with a wide of 150 meters and depth of 23 meters the biggest waterfall in Europe. It was one of the main reasons to go to Schaffhausen. It is so impressive standing in front of such a huge force, hearing the sound of the water and enjoying the peaceful power of the “Grosser Laufen” how they call him here.

It is very easy to get to the Rheinfall. You can go there by bus, by train however you want it’s super easy. We went there by car and visited both sides of the Rhein River. They have plenty parking spots all around. They also have an extra railway station which stops directly at the waterfall. So no problem to get there. Of course you will find a lot of people there so we recommend going there from Monday to Friday but on the other hand, if you just walk a few meters on the river there is always a little place to sit for yourself and enjoy this natural beauty.

Visiting the Rheinfall is for free at the North side (at the Schlössli Wörth “Schlössli is Swiss for Castle”) of the River. When you go to the “Castle Laufen” (that’s on the side where the waterfall actually is) you have to pay 5 CHF to go to the waterfall. Its not much and you can go very close to the waterfall.

At the North Side of the River, you can, like we told you, watch for free or just book a little boat tour which brings you very close to the waterfall. A special adventure is going up on the rock in the middle of the waterfall so you’re surrounded by this massive powerful water.

We decided to find a little spot just for us and enjoy the full beautiness of it.

THE MUNOT:

The Munot is one of the oldest and most known buildings in Schaffhausen and one of our absolute favorite places. I don’t know what it is but it has some kind of magic when your up there enjoying the view over Schaffhausen and the Rhein river. It was build in the 16th century and is on of the oldest buildings in Schaffhausen. It is open for public and you don’t have to pay when you go up there. And you definitely should go up there and enjoy this beauty (you can even try to see the boat from Swiss Urban Sleeping 😉 ).

One funny fact. Around the Munot is a little kind of an enclosure for some deer and the stag always gets the name of the actual mayor. So actually he is called “Peter Neukomm”.
The Munot is in the middle of a beautiful park with his own vineyard (you should definitely try the Schaffhauser Vine, its pretty good!).

We had an amazing time up there and enjoyed every second.

THE CITY SCHAFFHAUSEN:

What should we say about the city of Schaffhausen. It is a lovely old city with beautiful cobblestone roads and countless little restaurants and bars. I don’t know what it is but those old cities build straight at a river always have their very own mood and time. We had an unbelievable relaxed time and enjoyed roaming around the city. You can find a lot of good places for shopping, eating and of course exploring the culture of Schaffhausen. You find some epic old museums like “Museum zu Allerheiligen” (more Infos here) or the old monastery “Kloster Allerheiligen”. And if you love watches (like Bastian does) you have to check out IWC. If you don’t know what IWC is and you like watches and especially swiss watches (which are of course the best 😉 ) you should check them out immediately!!! I could go on with more epic places in Schaffhausen like the Church “St. Johann” or the “Schwabentor” or or or. It is one of those places where you can find one beautiful spot after an other behind every corner! So if you come to Switzerland Schaffhausen is a MUST SEE in our eyes. For more informations and some webcam pics, check out this Website HERE.

THE CASTLE LAUFEN:

The Castle Laufen was our last stop on the journey. Like we wrote at the very top its straight at the Rheinfall and gives you an epic view and experience. Getting inside is for free and you will find a beautiful castle with a lovely restaurant and some little shops. Further, you can go down to the Rheinfall (even with an elevator if you’re a little lazy 😉 ). You also can book a boat tour down their at the water and enjoy the Rheinfall.

What you also should check out is the light show at the evening. Every day (no when its full moon so far we know) they will light up the waterfall so you can enjoy the few with a little bonus.

All in all, Schaffhausen is perfect for a weekend trip form 2-3 days. You can enjoy the beautiful old town, the Rheinfall, the many many amazing restaurants and so much more!

But our highlight was, of course, our own boat where we were allowed to stay. It made our trip even more unique like it would have been anyways :).
